    Registration open for Natural Sports Field Management & Maintenance Course - LIVE ONLINE!

    This course is designed to introduce the latest principles and techniques of managing and maintaining natural sports fields. The course will be of interest to the practitioners and decision makers who manage sports fields to ensure a positive playing experience for athletes and reduce injury.  This is a great opportunity to either refresh or develop knowledge and skills in this vital skillset.

    The Canadian Sports Fields Association, formerly Sports Turf Canada, is a Canadian not for profit association dedicated to the promotion of better, safer sports fields through innovation, education and professional programs.  We’ve been doing sports field management since 1987!

    TOPICS INCLUDE:

    • Turf species and their uses, characteristics and benefits, emphasizing the latest and best varieties for particular uses
    • Soils as a growth medium for turfgrass including soil fertility, soil water movement and management of soils for better athletic field performance
    • Cultural practices which enhance and promote good turf and improved playing conditions
    • Water management including sub-surface and surface drainage systems, irrigation practices and systems and the efficient use of water and weather information for managing improvements under water restrictions
    • An overview of the identification, monitoring and control of weeds, insects, and diseases in sports turf
    • Integrated pest management (IPM) programs to recognize and monitor infestations of weeds, insects, and diseases, to identify thresholds, to reduce pesticide use, and to utilize biological and cultural methods to control/reduce infestations
    • Renovations and restoration methods for poorly performing fields and best practices which promote good conditions and improved maintenance practices
    • Sports field construction including proper design, layout, orientation and the hidden aspects for good turf

      The course is 4 days in length and consists of 2.5 hours per morning on Zoom.

      TEST:

      This course includes a short test on the last day to ensure you received the information which was taught.  It is done online and is multiple choice.  Registrants are required to attend 100% of the classes in order to write the test.  Those who achieve a passing grade of 60% will be provided a Certificate of Successful Completion for the course. Support is provided for those with learning challenges.

      CANCELLATION:

      Notice of cancellation received by Sports Turf Canada no later than 7 calendar days before the course date will receive a complete refund, less a $50 administration fee.  Those who register but do not attend will not receive a refund.  If you are unable to attend, you may send a replacement in your place, provided written notification with replacements name and email is sent before the course begins.  Registrants will receive a full refund should the course be cancelled. We reserve the right to cancel a course due to conditions beyond our control. Registrants are required to reach out to Sports Turf Canada by phone or email to resolve payment or refund concerns.

      Sports Turf Canada’s goal is to advance the knowledge and education of sports turf professionals in Canada in the areas of synthetic sports turf field safety and maintenance. This two day (2.5 hours each day) Sports Turf Canada course will be of interest to those who manage or maintain synthetic sports turf and to those who wish to develop additional knowledge and skills in this subject matter.

      TOPICS INCLUDE:

      • What is synthetic turf?
      • History of synthetic turf
      • Design of fields
      • How to identify your type of field
      • Installation and drainage understanding
      • Field safety best practices
      • Infill understanding
      • Equipment overview

      Natural Turf Course

      The course will be of interest to those who manage or maintain sports turf or want to learn more about it, and those who wish to develop additional knowledge, past the fundamentals. The course offers a range of options to deal with issues such as restricted pesticide use, water use, common regional issues, limited equipment availability and how best to manage within limited financial resources.


      Synthetic Turf Course

      This course explores the myth that artificial turf is low maintenance. It will be of interest to those who manage or maintain synthetic sports turf and for those who want additional knowledge of it’s maintenance requirements. Course includes an on-field demonstration of concepts learned in classroom, where possible. 

      Managing Your Infield Clinic

      Take advantage of this full day to experience infield maintenance demonstrated on a natural grass infield, with an infield expert.  An ideal event for hands-on,  applied learning and connecting with others in the industry, held on-field in Woodstock, Ontario. Find solutions to your maintenance challenges and learn infield best practices.
